Graceful Minds Childrens Yoga Warrington

The UK has a growing mental health problem with children and young people.

Children are under so much pressure in today’s society from School, home, environmental factors and their peers. They are still developing and growing both physically and mentally. Children are far less mindful and undertake more outward activities, constantly on screens, phones and computer games,  often for long periods of time. There is an endless push of information to them on social media and their minds are being over stimulated. Add into this navigating an increasingly complex and ever changing 24/7 world and things often become too much for young people to handle.

Graceful Minds Children’s Yoga are passionate about helping children and young people to improve their emotional health and wellbeing.

We strongly believe that all Schools should be teaching yoga and mindfulness as part of the National Curriculum to combat the rising mental health problem we face in the UK.  We recommend this to be implemented as a PE lesson or a PSHE lesson and utilising Sports Funding or Pupil Premium funding in an effective way for the whole school.

By introducing yoga as an early intervention and prevention strategy this will help to build resilience at a young age.

Furthermore, yoga in Schools will ease pressure on all of our struggling health care services which will have important cost savings to the NHS. Yoga has proven beneficial effects on both the body and mind.

We offer a bespoke programme of yoga and mindfulness classes specifically designed and tailored around your children’s needs. Through yoga we can provide fun and creative ways to engage children.

The Department for Education (DfE) recognises that:
“In order to help their pupils succeed schools have a role to play in supporting them to be resilient and mentally healthy”

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) advises that primary schools and secondary schools should be supported to adopt a comprehensive, ‘whole school’ approach to promoting the social and emotional wellbeing of children and young people.

The children are encouraged to understand the benefits and positive effect of the postures and the value of breathing techniques. These benefits work on many levels, maintaining natural flexibility, encouraging physical exercise and providing the tools to enable children to deal with emotional and stressful situations through posture work, breathing and relaxation techniques. These valuable ingredients help to support them through their childhood and beyond.

For the younger children a yoga class can include a story where each adventure offers the children the chance to become the hero of the story enabling them to develop a strong sense of self-esteem and confidence. These classes will offer an opportunity for the children to express their creativity and individuality in a non-competitive and safe environment.

Yoga supports positive mental health in children. When children learn to accept and love themselves for who they are, to see the good in others, to focus and calm their minds, and to be aware of their innate capabilities, they learn tools for resilience. Yoga grows their confidence both physically and mentally as they become more self-aware of their bodies and minds. Yoga keeps children physically health too and promotes a health body through its yoga poses. Building strength in the muscles and joints, improving flexibility, coordination and balance.

Children are natural yogis. Their innate trust in others, combined with their lack of inhibitions, allows them to receive the teachings of yoga and grow from them in inspiring ways. Adults have a lot to learn from the way children receive yoga!  If we can lead them there, they will not only benefit, but they will enjoy it immensely.

We were happy to welcome Lisa into St Peter’s to work with our children during our Health & Wellbeing Week. The children loved the Yoga workshops and were inspired by Lisa, learning the art of Yoga, promoting calm and rested bodies and minds during a busy day. We will definitely be working with Graceful Minds Yoga in the very near future!
