About me
Hello and welcome to Graceful Minds Children’s Yoga. My name is Lisa and I’m a Mum to a young daughter.
For the past 20 years I have worked in Sales in the Education and IT Sectors. My last job of 10 years being with Capita Education Software Services as a Customer Account Manager. I have a wealth of knowledge and experience of working with Local Authorities, Schools, Academies and Multi Academy Trusts. I have always enjoyed sports and keeping fit and I was a Fitness Instructor for several years teaching Body Combat, Body Pump, Aerobics and Circuit Training classes in Warrington.
When I became pregnant with my Daughter, I practised pregnancy yoga and I really enjoyed it. So much so that I started to practice Hatha Yoga at a local centre once she was born and still do today. This is where my love of yoga and mindfulness started.
My life changed forever at the end of 2016 when my partner died suddenly. My Daughter was 18 months old. Part of me died too on that day. The bereavement caused my mental health to suffer and I experienced emotional and physical symptoms.
Somewhere along this tragic path I found yoga again, but I believe it found me at a time I needed it the most.
I have been practising yoga and mindfulness for over 3 years now and I can hand on heart say it’s been life changing. My mental health has improved dramatically, and I just wish I would have been introduced to these disciplines at a younger age.
I wanted to turn a tragic event into something positive and to share my love of yoga with others. I qualified as a Children’s Yoga teacher with YogaKidz Worldwide and Graceful Minds Children’s Yoga was born.
I am extremely passionate about helping children with their mental health and wellbeing. I believe yoga and mindfulness should form part of the School Curriculum and be taught in every School as a mental health prevention strategy. Early intervention will build resilience in children and young people in the formative years. Teaching a life skill that they can take with them through to adult life and helping them to deal with whatever challenges and setbacks life throws at them. If I can teach our future generations yoga this will ease pressure off our health care services and will result in important cost savings for the NHS.
The way children engage with PE is changing and I believe yoga should be introduced to this curriculum as an additional exercise or delivered as part of a PSHE lesson. Yoga will have enormous benefits on their emotional health and wellbeing but more importantly their happiness.
A happy child will attend school and perform to the best of their ability.
Children’s yoga is great fun as we use stories, themes, games, songs and more. Yoga with its postures, meditation and breathing will help children to become more mindful about their bodies and their mental health. It will help them to focus within and use the breathing techniques when they need to be calm or if they are feeling sad, low or angry. It will improve their flexibility, strengthen muscles and joints and promote a healthy body and healthy mind.
I would welcome the opportunity to work with the children at your setting and please get in touch if you require any further information.
Love and light
Lisa
