Photos from Graceful Minds Childrens Yoga's post

St Bridget's Catholic Primary School, Warrington it was our last Yoga after school club before the end of term.

We always end the term with our 'Yoga Choosing Mats' which is a little bit like a yoga circuit. Each mat has a different activity on it and the children spend 5 minutes on each mat then move onto the next one. The activities include colouring, reading, breathing, relaxation, play doh, yoga dice, hoola hoop and juggling scarves for example.

It's so lovely to watch things unfold as they become mindful and present with each activity.

Wishing you all a great half term break and see you back at yoga club after the holiday 🙏

Yoga addresses key areas of the new Ofsted Framework for emotional health and wellbeing and gets children active ✅✅

Namaste 🙏

I Now Suspect the Vagus Nerve Is the Key to Well-being

The human body is amazing and we love this article about our vagus nerve.

It's a huge pair of nerves that run from the brain to all our major organs in the neck, chest and abdomen. It's functions contribute to our nervous system. The parasympathetic and sympathetic.

In Yoga we work with our parasympathetic nervous system which the vagus nerve is heavily involved with. This decreases our heart rate, blood pressure and helps with calmness , relaxation and digestion. 'Rest and Digest'

That is why breath control work, meditation, mantras, relaxation and even the yoga poses (which are for meditation) have such a positive effect on the body and mind as they stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system. We need to keep our nervous system balanced.

If you are feeling anxious, stressed and low we recommend you practice some breathing exercises or meditation to bring your body and mind into a calmer state.

We promise, with regular practice, you will feel and see the results 🙏

Max Strom

Another fabulous article about the power of the breath.

Over 4 years ago we went to a birthing class and learnt breathing techniques that would help us to manage the pain. By using these techniques we were able to breath through the pain and have a natural water birth. It was the best day of our lives. Until reading this article we had forgotten all about this time in our lives!! So from experience, this an amazing example of the power of the breath.

The definition of yoga is to bring peace and calm to the mind and body.

Give yourself some time each day to practice conscious, slow and calm breathing.

'Breath to Heal'

Namaste 🙏

~ Nobel Prize for Oxygen Research ~
————————
This year’s Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded for research on oxygen sensing.
Dr. Steve James, anaesthetist and founder of the Breathlessness Clinic in London, explains: “This work shows the complex mechanisms responsible in our body for sensing low levels of oxygen and how when our body is getting enough oxygen we can switch this system off. This is another good example of how our body is constantly sensing and adapting to changes, we are plastic rather than static. When we are stressed we adapt and when we learn to reduce the stress in our outer world and our internal response to it new adaptations occur. This is how we get sick and heal.”
.
It’s already well known that practicing calm and controlled breathing has many benefits for the body and mind. A very obvious example is pregnant women being taught breathing techniques to not panic, manage pain and keep focus. It’s great to see scientists researching the power of breath more and more. Breathe to Heal.
.
Nowadays practicing conscious breathing patterns is more accessible than ever. Many teachers of breathing techniques are spreading the word and offering their knowledge and experience to help people around the world. You can practice with Max in one of his courses or practice online with his Breathe to Heal video course or app called Strategic Breathing (link in bio).
