Photos from Graceful Minds Childrens Yoga's post

Our yoga theme this week is 'Feelings' for our Primary School children. It's such an important topic to teach children as they can find this very hard to express and understand.

We enjoyed our extra curricular yoga at St Augustine's Primary School.

The children played with therapy putty whilst others got ready and then we started with our Sun Salutations to warm up our bodies.

For our breathing exercise we used hoberman spheres and used this as a visual aid to practice slow and calm breaths. Counting from 1 - 4 on each inhale and exhale.

Our positive affirmation "I am happy" 😀

We used a lovely story book called "The Colour Monster" by Anna Llenas with the children as a fun way to help them to understand their feelings and emotions. The Monsters emotions are cleverly depicted by colours.

For each 'Feeling' in the book we practiced yoga poses that we felt best represented them. We asked the children to make up their own poses too. The feelings in the book are Happiness, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Calm. Ending with the Colour Monster turning pink which all the children said represented Love ❤

It was fascinating to see how the children's bodies become more open, tall and wide with the positive feelings and more closed and on the ground with the negative feelings.

We ended our class helping the children to unwind with candle gazing. We sat around the candle with our blankets and concentrated on the flame for as long as we could bringing peace and relaxation to the mind and body.

Namaste 🙏

Brilliant idea from a teacher is shared by mum online goes viral

We love this, what a wonderful idea and teaching the children gratitude and kindness ❤

All Schools should do this each year. We will definitely be sharing this idea at our children's Schools 🙏

This idea could end pressure on all parents to buy gifts for teachers.
